Schonenvaert will add a brand new iconic structure to the city of Haarlem. The building is located at the intersection of several neighborhoods. This bold project serves as the new portal to the Schalkwijk neighbourhood. The challenging project consists of a closed city block on the one hand and an open and collective space on the other of. The shape of the building ensures optimal sunlight. The concept is targeted towards the forward-thinking housing requirements of modern urban dwellers who pay attention to important social trends such as sustainability, globalization, the sharing economy, adaptability, technology, services and living comfort.

Schonenvaert was designed by OZ Architecten. The plan provides the space for approximately 823 high-quality rental homes, a semi-sunken parking garage, a commercial plinth and premium communal facilities such as a fitness center, a lounge, rooms for flex work and study, a home cinema, a music room, a launderette and a game room. The surrounding water forms a natural buffer between the public and private domain. In addition, the complex offers contemporary (shared) services such as high-speed internet, shared electric cars, plus 24/7 security and a service desk.

ERED and NCD will further develop the plan in the following two years in collaboration with, among others, the municipality of Haarlem. The aim is to make a positive contribution to Schalwijk together with all stakeholders involved.
